50 Years Ago (week of Feb. 9-15, 1941):
* Samuel H. Caplan and Gertrude Dorothy Klein were married Sunday, Feb. 9, at the home of the groom's mother, Rachel Caplan of Ellicott City. The wedding was attended by the immediate families of the bride and groom. Mr. Caplan was a graduate of Ellicott City High School and Johns Hopkins University.He studied medicine at the University of Maryland, but gave up his studies in 1923 to go into the dry goods business with his mother in Ellicott City. Following the wedding reception, Mr. and Mrs. Caplan took a honeymoon motor trip to Florida.
* Judge William H. Forsythe Jr. of Howard County was appointed tosucceed former Chief Judge F. Neal Parke, who retired recently as chief judge of the 5th Judicial Circuit. Forsythe had been a member of the bench for more than 33 years and received the endorsements of thebar associations of Anne Arundel, Carroll and Howard counties (the three counties that then comprised the 5th Judicial Circuit).
