UNIONTOWN -- The Carroll County Wrestling Tournament turned into a dual meet between North Carroll and the other four teams. The Panthers advanced a wrestler to the finals in all 13 weight classes and had the team title won before the championship round began at Francis Scott Key High last night.
North Carroll had 179 points after the semifinals and second-place Key had 102 with five wrestlers still competing. Even if all 13 North Carroll wrestlers lost and all five Key wrestlers won by pins, the Eagles still would have been 47 points behind.
The Panthers' dominance hardly was surprising, since 11 of them entered the tournament as top seeds and a 12th was seeded second. The lone surprise for North Carroll was heavyweight Jim Dill, the fourth seed who upset top-seeded Jim Stump of Westminster, 6-2, in the semifinals.
