A report on proposed redistricting options for the new Piney Ridge Elementary School, slated to open in September, will be among the items on the county Board of Education's agenda Wednesday.
The meetingwill be 9 a.m. at South Carroll High School.
In other business, the board will consider a proposal to change the name of the Carroll County Vocational-Technical Centers to the Carroll County Career and Technology Center.
School officials said the name changes follows a trend across the state and the nation and better reflects the changing role of vo-tech programs.
Also up for consideration are names for the proposed Taneytown/Uniontown Elementary School, expected to open in fall 1993. School officials have received a lengthy list of proposed names -- submitted by county residents -- that include Tan-U-Town, Pipe Creek, Mayberry and Harmony Hill.
The redistricting report for Piney Ridge will include different options for redrawing boundary lines in the Eldersburg attendance area. Eldersburg, Carrolltowne and Freedom District elementaries could be affected by the redistricting proposal.
The board is not expected totake action on a redistricting plan until April, after public meetings have been held and the staff makes a recommendation.
School officials initially expected to open the school in January but because construction is ahead of schedule, they have decided to open the school in September.
The superintendent's proposed 1991-1992 budget, unveiled last week, includes a request for additional money to hire staff for both Piney Ridge and Spring Garden Elementary, also slated toopen in September.
