TEL AVIV, Israel -- An Iraqi missile struck here this morning, injuring 17 and jolting Israel from its growing sense of security. One person suffered "medium" injuries, and the others were slightly injured, according to authorities.

The single rocket, which carried a conventional warhead, was the first attack on the country since Sunday and was the first to cause injuries since Jan. 26.

A Patriot missile was seen streaking toward the incoming rocket, but it failed to halt the Scud.

The Iraqi missile ripped the front walls off concrete buildings and left gaping holes in several cement-block walls.

At least three cars were smashed by debris.
