Atlanta Braves -- Agreed to 1-year contract with 2B Jeff Treadway (.283, 11 HRs, 59 RBI) for $770,000, a raise of $520,000.

Boston Red Sox -- Agreed in principle to two-year contract plus tTC option with OF Tom Brunansky (.267, 15, 71) worth about $8 million. Brunansky, who earned $1.5 million in 1990, had filed for $2.75 million in arbitration for 1991, and the Red Sox had offered $2 million.

Cincinnati Reds -- Agreed to 2-year contract with OF Billy Hatcher (.276, 5, 25 plus World Series-record 7 consecutive hits) worth $3.2 million with club option for 1993. He made $690,000 last season. Signed 3B Chris Sabo (.270, 25, 71) for $1.25 million, a raise of $990,000.

Cleveland Indians -- Agreed to 1-year contract with SS Felix Fermin (.256, 0 HRs, 40 RBI) for $575,000, a raise of $385,000.

Houston Astros -- Signed P Don Carman (6-2, 4.15 ERA with Philadelphia Phillies) to 1-year contract.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Agreed to 1-year contract with OF Mickey Hatcher (14 pinch-hits in 47 at-bats, .212 overall) for $550,000, a $50,000 raise.

New York Yankees -- Agreed to 1-year contract with P Greg Cadaret (5-4, 3 saves, 4.15) for $620,000, a raise of $315,250, plus $55,000 in performance bonuses. Announced resignation of George Bradley, vice president of baseball operations.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Signed C Mike LaValliere (.258, 3, 31 in 96 games) to 1-year contract for $925,000, a raise of $270,000, plus $110,000 each year in performance bonuses. Named Douglas Bureman senior vice president for business operations.

St. Louis Cardinals -- Signed P Todd Worrell (injured last season) and P Bob Tewksbury (10-9, 3.47 ERA) to one-year contracts.

Seattle Mariners -- Signed C Dave Valle (.214, 7, 33) to 3-year, $3.6 million contract plus additional $500,000 each season if he plays 130 games.

Texas Rangers -- Agreed to terms with P Brian Bohanon (0-3 in 11 games), P Roger Pavlik and OF Kevin Reimer (.260 in 100 at-bats) on one-year contracts.


Boston Celtics -- Announced that F Larry Bird, who returned to starting lineup last night after being sidelined for 14 games with back injury, will sit out tonight's game in New York and Sunday's All-Star Game because medical personnel don't want him to play on consecutive nights or to travel.

Cleveland Cavaliers -- Removed F John "Hot Rod" Williams (missed 37 games with sprained left foot) from injured list. Placed C Milos Babic on injured list.

Los Angeles Clippers -- Activated G Tom Garrick from injured list.

NBC -- Announced that Bob Costas will replace Marv Albert as play-by-play announcer for Sunday's NBA All-Star Game. NBC said Albert will not take part in the telecast due to the death of his mother, Alida, Tuesday.

United States Basketball League -- Awarded franchise to Atlanta Professional Sports Inc. for 1991 season.


Delaware -- Reinstated basketball players C Spencer Dunkley (10.3 rpg), G Ricky Deadwyler and G Andre Buck, who had been suspended after a fight Saturday.

Idaho State -- Announced that basketball players Kareem Carpenter and Marcus Malone have been suspended indefinitely.

Michigan -- Received oral commitment from 6-foot-4, 275-pound wrestler Rodriguez Jackson (234-28-3 for Cardinal Gibbons).

Montana -- Announced that quarterback coach Tommy Lee has resigned to become offensive coordinator of San Antonio of World League of American Football and that Bob Beers, assistant head football coach, has resigned to become offensive line coach for Frankfurt, Germany, of WLAF.

Syracuse -- Disciplined junior basketball F Dave Johnson (20.0 ppg) for relationship with 14-year-old girl who says Johnson had sex with her two years ago.

William Penn -- Promoted offensive coordinator Randy Athay t head football coach.


Los Angeles Raiders -- Named Earl Leggett defensive-line coach.

Phoenix Cardinals -- Announced that defensive coordinator Joe Pascale will be reassigned. Named Fritz Shurmur defensive coordinator.

New York-New Jersey Knights (WLAF) -- Named Mouse Davis, Detroit Lions offensive coordinator the past two seasons and architect of run-and-shoot offense, coach.


NHL -- Suspended Vancouver Canucks LW Gino Odjick for 1 game for receiving third game-misconduct penalty of season Feb. 5.

Pittsburgh Penguins -- Assigned C Jeff Parker and D Gord Dineen to Muskegon (IHL). Announced that RW Joey Mullen (17 goals, 22 assists) underwent surgery to remove herniated disk and will miss rest of season.

Vancouver Canucks -- Called up LW Shawn Antoski from Milwaukee (IHL).

Washington Capitals -- LW Bob Joyce cleared waivers and was assigned to Baltimore (AHL).


Tampa Bay Rowdies -- Signed F Peter Vermes.
