Schaefer offends with remark

It's your call

February 07, 1991

Gov. William Donald Schaefer recently used a profane remark to describe the quality of life on the Eastern Shore. He also has written strong and personally insulting letters to private citizens who have expressed disagreement with his policies.

Some say that the governor is just plain rude. Others say he has the right to freely express his opinion to those who might disagree with him.

A majority of Evening Sun readers said they believed that Schaefer has been rude. Of 1,857 callers to SUNDIAL yesterday, 1706 (92 percent) said they thought Schaefer has been just plain rude, while 151 (8 percent) of callers said they thought the governor has been giving critics what they deserve.

"It's Your Call" represents a sampling of opinions from certain segments of the community, but it is not balanced demographically as would be done in a scientific public opinion poll.
