George Johnson Sr., 80, a retired elevator operator who taught Sunday school, died Sunday of cancer at Maryland General Hospital.
Funeral services were being held today at the Metropolitan United Methodist Church, Lanvale Street and Carrollton Avenue.
Mr. Johnson, who lived at the N.M. Carroll Home, retired nearly 15 years ago after about 30 years at Lann's Department Store. During World War II, he worked for the Glenn L. Martin Co., now Martin Marietta Corp.
Born in Baltimore and a graduate of Douglass High School, he was a member of the Methodist Men and taught Sunday school at the Metropolitan United Methodist Church. Mr. Johnson was a volunteer worker at the N.M. Carroll Home before moving there.
