George Johnson Sr. Elevator operator

Services for George Johnson Sr., a retired elevator operator who taught Sunday school, will be held at noon today at the Metropolitan United Methodist Church, Lanvale Street and Carrollton Avenue.

Mr. Johnson, who was 80 and lived at the N. M. Carroll Home, died Sunday of cancer at Maryland General Hospital.

He retired nearly 15 years ago after about 30 years at Lann's Department Store. During World War II, he worked for the Glenn L. Martin Co., now Martin Marietta Corp.

Born in Baltimore and a graduate of Douglass High School, he was a member of the Methodist Men and taught Sunday school at the Metropolitan United Methodist Church. Mr. Johnson was a volunteer worker at the N. M. Carroll Home before moving there.

His wife, the former Genevieve Jackson, died in 1976.

He is survived by a son, George Johnson Jr. of San Jose, Calif.; two daughters, Janice J. White and Juanita M. Johnson, both of Baltimore; two sisters, Mary L. Young and Grace G. Johnson, both of Baltimore; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
