The No. 6 Catonsville Comets turned the defense of host Eastern Vo-Tech inside-out yesterday for a 93-79 victory.

From the inside, Comets center Marlon Barbour dominated, scoring 22 points and grabbing several offensive rebounds leading to second-chance baskets. From the outside, guard David Clark was nearly perfect, hitting 10 of 12 shots, including six of seven from three-point range, en route to a game-high 27 points.

The win kept Catonsville (18-0) perfect, including 16-0 in the Baltimore County 3A-4A league. The Mavericks dropped to 11-6 and 10-5.

"We were really focused today," said Comets coach Art Gamzon. "We knew this was a big game and that EVT wanted to win it badly. I think our guys were really ready for them. Marlon was definitely our warrior inside, and Clark played very well."

Said EVT coach Joel Bailey: "We tried several defenses, but it didn't seem to matter. They hit from outside; they hit from inside. They made it impossible to cheat on them."

The Mavericks tried the 1-3-1, the 2-3 and even the full-court press. It didn't seem to matter, as Catonsville dominated offensively most of the game.
