Join the chorus of "Happy Birthday" to North Carroll Library, which celebrates its first anniversary from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Treat the family to all the festive activities, including entertainment, visits by storybook characters, face painting, free pizza and door prizes.

Children age 3 to 8 are invited to a special program at 1:30 p.m.North Carroll Middle and North Carroll High School will join the gala, striking up their bands at 2:30 p.m.

The staff also plans a "Forever Friends" program for area families at 11 a.m. Saturday. Registration is required for this.

Drop in, add your congratulations and you might even win a prize. The library is at 2255 Hanover Pike, Greenmount.

North Carroll is not the only library with plans to eliminate the winter doldrums.

Taneytown plans a Penny Theater featuring "Miss Nelson is Missing" and "The Three Little Kittens" for children in kindergarten through second grade at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Or, 3- to 8-year-olds can join in the eveningstorytime, "Feeling Funny in the Tummy" at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Registration is required for both programs. It's all happening at 10 Grand Drive.

Carroll's sweethearts have planned several get-togethers for this weekend before Valentine's Day.

Sunday Singles will set a Candlelight Dinner at 8 p.m. Friday. The evening has a special twist: the guys will cook for the gals.

The Singles also have planned a dance from 7 to 11 p.m. Sunday at Frock's, Bond Street, Westminster.

Carroll Promenaders join the Valentineparade with a Sweethearts Dance from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at North Carroll High School, 3801 Hampstead-Mexico Road, Hampstead.

The Carroll County Department of Recreation and Parks has teamed up with Ocean City to present an afternoon of free fun and entertainment for all at 2 p.m. Saturday at Westminster High School.

The Parker Playhouse brings its show here to say thanks to all the families who have supported the oceanresort.

The actors will present "Rumpelstiltskin," the story of aprincess and her debt to a little man who can spin straw into gold.
