Zesty Vittles Are Part Of Knights Greenfest

The local Knights of Columbus are getting ready for their annual "Wearing O The Green."

Richard Walz, Grand Knight of the Archbishop Francis P. Keough Council says the St. Patrick Gala is scheduled for 8p.m. to 1 a.m. March 16 at Corrigan Hall at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

George Murray is chairman and Ray Chase is co-chairman. Will LaPierre is handling reservations and tickets, $16 each. Call 672-2801 tomake arrangements.

The dinner features baked ham and zesty vegetables specially selected by two of the organization's chief chefs, Charlie Shai and Joe Malloy. The dinner will also include rolls, coffee and dessert.

The Ladies Auxiliary will assist in the food preparation.

The event is BYOB, but the price of admission includes hors d'oeuvres, beer and setups.

Music will be provided by the Wall of Sound, back by popular demand.

The Epiphany Episcopal Church, 1419 Odenton Road, invites the community to a presentation and discussion of "The Islamic Understanding of a Justified War" on Sunday.

This presentation will be led by Ann Wyman, a doctoral candidate fromthe University of Maryland's Department of Government and Politics.

Wyman is completing her dissertation, which focuses on jihad and the concept of Holy War. The lecture and discussion will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the church.

Boy Scout Troop 721, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Odenton, meets Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. in the Kiwanis Building on Becknel Avenue in Odenton.

Scouts have startingplanning for this year's summer camp at Broad Creek Scout Reservation in Whitefield.

Last year, the Scouts won a number of awards, including "Honor Troop of the Week."

Led by Star Scout and Senior Patrol Leader Walter Fletcher, Troop 721 earned 43 merit badges in life saving, swimming, camping, cooking, environmental science, fish and wildlife management, canoeing, wood carving, basketry leather work andfishing.

Attendees were: Life Scout Greg Miller; First Class Scouts Alex Buinickas II, Billy Collier, Chris Cox and Matt Lindeman; Second Class Scout Steve Hodges and Scouts Chip Jett, Mike Leon, Chris Miller, Cullen Schar and Devin Schar.

They were supervised by Scoutmaster Michael Buinickas, Assistant Scoutmasters Bill Collier, Darrell Jett, Lyle Lindeman and Bill Miller, Troop Committee member Bill Cox, Charter Organization representative Al Buinickas and Steven Hodges.

Miller, Cox, Jett, Lindeman, Collier and Michael Buinickas passed the Boy Scouts of America Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat courses.

The West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce will have its second annual $10,000 Raffle/Bull and Oyster Roast from 6 p.m to midnight April 20 at the Odenton Fire Hall, Route 175.

The raffle is limited to 250 tickets, and the holder of the last ticket drawn will take home $10,000 in cash. There will be other cash and door prizes awarded during the evening. A trip to Barbados has been added to the list of prizes this year.

Games of chance and a live band, TheCrystalairs, will supply the entertainment.

Raffle tickets are $100 each and the Bull and Oyster Roast tickets are $25 per person. If you buy four tickets to the roast, you get one free.

Ticket locations include the Chamber of Commerce Office in Odenton, Franklin Printing and Office Supply in Hanover, O'Conor Piper & Flynn Realtors in Odenton, and Severn Automotive in Severn.

The O'Malley Senior Center will be closed Tuesday to celebrate Lincoln's Birthday and Feb. 18 to celebrate Washington'sBirthday.

One of the coming events is a discussion of environmental issues from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m., Feb. 14 and 28.

New members are welcome.
