How would you describe your taste in clothing?
Classic with particular attention to details that reflect a casual sophisticated look. I'm attracted to the Italian designers, because the cut makes the clothes fit better. I'm very conscious of coordinating accessories to present a total look.
What's the newest thing in your closet?
Its a gray, double-breasted glen plaid suit that I purchased at Bernard Hill before the holiday -- before the going out of business sale.
What's the oldest thing in your closet?
A brown suede overcoat with a shearling collar given to me by a client 10 years ago at the closing of a large real estate transaction. It was very expensive surprise.
Do you have a true "standby" that you wear to feel good?
It's my navy blue double-breasted blazer, gray slacks, a pink or white shirt and a burgundy or blue paisley tie. With each outfit I buy, I buy at least three ties to go with it.
What is your wardrobe weakness?
My weaknesses are ties and shoes. I have about 100 ties and probably 25 pairs of shoes. It's important to me that my shoes look like new.
What's the most expensive item in your closet?
A navy cashmere double-breasted top coat.
What's the least expensive item in your closet?
A pair of jeans from the Banana Republic. What's the wildest outfit you've ever bought?
A number of years ago when I was in Sausalito, I bought a Western outfit, which is totally out of character for me. Rattlesnake skin cowboy boots and a tan ultra suede Western cut jacket was definitely a walk on the wild side for me.
What clothes does your spouse buy?
She helps, but I'm always there.
Do you have any shopping tips to share?
ATry to buy quality and stay away from fads. Your first impression is your best one.
