Country Club Lanes has a 300 game

Darren McConnell, bowling in the Starfires League at Country Club Lanes on Pulaski Highway, rolled a 300 game, the only perfect game at that house last week.

Chuck Tillman, bowling in the WPOC League, had a 290 game, plus games of 235 and 245 for a 770 series. Ray Billings, rolling in the same league, had 267-239-210--716.

The Baltimore Men's Scratch Classic League featured a 286 game and 669 set by Monty Smith, plus Dave Grant with 242-269-235--746 and Mike Scott with 201-268-257--726.

Jeff Harding rolled 259-212-269-289--1,029 in the Scratch Triples League, and Larry Detweiler rolled a 279 game and 727 series in the Minors League.

Danny Wiseman of Baltimore finished seventh in the Professional Bowlers Association Showboat Invitational in Las Vegas with 12,606 pins, a 13-10-1 head-to-head record and a 217 average. He earned $4,000.

Mark Bowers of Aberdeen finished 55th in the tournament and earned $910.

Wiseman, defending champion of the Fair Lanes PBA Open in Baltimore, is ranked ninth on the PBA Tour with 16,150 pins in 74 games for a 218.24 average. He is 17th on the money-winning list with $5,210.

Michael Sachwald of Columbia won the third Pro Spot Qualifier, held last Sunday at Fair Lanes Towson, with a six-game scratch total of 1,390 pins, an average of 231.

Sachwald, who won a place in the $150,000 PBA Open set for Fair Lanes Kings Point on Feb. 24-March 2, rolled games of 210, 227, 200, 279, 227 and 247. He won his entry into the tournament, which is worth $250, plus $300 in cash.

Finishing second was Curt Pezzanno of Baltimore with 279-202-230-216-179-236--1,342, and Bill Plagianakos of Baltimore was third with 212-234-194-255-247-196--1,338. Pezzanno earned $275, and Plagianakos took home $200.

The next Pro Spot Qualifier for the $150,000 PBA Open will be held next Sunday at Fair Lanes University in Adelphi.

Thirty-nine teams from 13 states are competing in the Fair Lanes-Ebonite Collegiate Team Bowling Championships, which end today at Fair Lanes Kings Point.
