Sloan In 'Who's Who'

Carla Long Sloan, daughter of Carl L. and Linda L. Long of Carroll County, has been named to the current edition of "Who's Who in the South and Southwest," a companion volume to "Who's Who in America," for her outstanding contribution in the field of education.

Selection to the publication is based on noteworthy achievements that have proven to be of lasting value to society.

A 1977 honors graduate of North Carroll High School, Sloan is currently completing her seventh year of teaching in human resources management at the School of Business and Government at Liberty University, Lynchburg, Va.

She is a consultant for a leading publisher of college text books and serves on the Liberty University senate, representing the School of Business and Government.

She has done additional postgraduate studies at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va., and Lynchburg College, Lynchburg, Va.

Sloan received her master's of arts degree in mass communication from TowsonState University, Baltimore County, and completed a graduate internship in the public relations and press office of former Baltimore Mayor William Donald Schaefer.

While at TSU, she was awarded a graduate assistantship under Michael Mark, dean of the Graduate School atTSU.

She taught in the English Department of Westminster High School from 1982-1983, teaching English, personal writing, literatureand mass media. In the fall of 1983, she taught at the Hampstead Early Learning Center.

While at Liberty University, she earned bachelor of science degrees in English and speech and was honored by theuniversity as "Student Teacher of the Year 1982."

She and her husband, Donald T. Sloan, live in Lynchburg, where she is involved innumerous community service organizations.
