Families to receive health coverage WAR IN THE GULF

January 31, 1991

Families of Baltimore City employees who are now serving in the Persian Gulf will be able to continue their health-care benefits under a special plan devised by the city.

The decision by Mayor Kurt L. Schmoke means spouses and children of reservists and Maryland National Guardsmen who were called to active duty will be spared the inconvenience of having to travel to a military facility to get the health-care benefits provided to servicemen.

Under the plan, the city will pay the full cost of basic health insurance coverage -- minus prescription and vision plans -- for about 20 families whose relatives are serving with Operation Desert Storm. The plan is effective immediately. Questions should be directed to city Personnel Director Jesse Hoskins at 396-1563.
