Moviegoers get their say in these awards

LOS ANGELES -- Finally, an awards show that can accommodate both "Dances With Wolves" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."

"Dances With Wolves" was voted Best Drama and "Ninja Turtles" Best Children's or Family Film by an estimated 1 million theatergoers polled to determine winners of the Movie Awards, which were presented last night at ceremonies broadcast on CBS.

"Pretty Woman" captured Best Comedy honors, while "The Hunt for Red October" won the Action-Adventure Film award.

Richard Gere and Julia Roberts picked up comedy lead honors, and their "Pretty Woman" co-star Hector Elizondo shared the Supporting Actor-Comedy award with Joe Pesci for "Home Alone." Whoopi Goldberg got the Supporting Actress nod for "Ghost."

Ms. Roberts also picked up a Drama Lead award for "Flatliners." Kevin Costner was voted Best Leading Man, his "Dances With Wolves" co-star Mary McDonnell won the Supporting Actress prize, and Andy Garcia won the Supporting Actor award for "The Godfather Part III."

Sean Connery was voted Best Actor in an Action-Adventure Film for "Red October," and Goldie Hawn picked up the Best Actress award for "Bird on a Wire."

The Special Award of Merit went to Clint Eastwood and Steven Spielberg.
