Camilla Carr came to Baltimore from Philadelphia 3 1/2 years ago and has since become a popular WBAL--TV anchor/reporter. When she's not on the air, she keeps in shape by running, lifting weights, and working out. With a fitness program like that, she can easily enjoy one of her favorite past-times, gourmet cooking. In her quiet moments, she loves to curl up with any book by Martha Grimes or Agatha Christie, with her best buddy Prince, a black standard poodle, by her side.
How would you describe your taste in clothing?
I like casual elegance and comfort. My tastes are extremes. For example, when I go to parties, I love really fancy dresses and when I'm being casual, I love to wear sweats.
The clothing rules at a television station are unwritten, but you learn to dress on the conservative side and try not to wear jewelry that is distracting. As for what colors you should wear on camera, the normal no-nos are certain shades of green or blue. As for other colors, it's trial and error and a lot depends on the lighting in the studio.
What's the newest thing in your closet?
An off-white Harve Benard sweater jacket.
What's the oldest thing in your closet?
I have a lot of old things, but the oldest is probably a navy blue blazer by Stanley Blacker that I've had for about 11 years.
Do you have a true "standby" that you wear to feel good and look good?
In the winter it's a black belted dress, that I dress up or down, depending on the occasion. Another standby is anything red. That's my feel good color.
Do you have something you've held on to for sentimental reasons?
Absolutely. I will always keep the white dress that I wore when I graduated from Mt. Holyoke. Not only does it still fit, but it's a little big.
What are the most expensive clothes in your closet?
My Donna Karan pieces were pretty expensive.
What's the least expensive item in your closet?
Sweats, I have at least a dozens pairs of sweats. My favorites are the ones that I bought in California because the people there are really into working out and the lifestyle is so laid back that you can wear sweat suits almost anywhere.
What are your favorite accessories?
When I'm working I wear understated costume jewelry. When I'm not working I love big scarves and nice jewelry, but never anything big and flashy. I bought a pair of the shoulder length earrings two years ago and I've never worn them. Maybe I will this year.
Do you have any shopping tips you'd like to share?
The only tips I have are to look for sales and never buy on impulse.
