as car runs off road

Two teen-agers were killed when their car ran off the road and hit an embankment Saturday night.

The driver, Brian Michael Brazil, 18, of the 200 block Scotts Manor Drive, Glen Burnie, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

John Robert Pumphrey, 17, of the 900 block Oakdale Circle in Millersville, was pronounced dead at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center at University Hospital in Baltimore shortly after the 10:40 p.m. accident.

Another passenger in the car, James Edward Campbell, 20, of the1500 block Wampanoag Drive in Severn, was in critical condition yesterday at the trauma center.

County police said Brazil was driving south on Route 3 and lost control of his car while making a right turn onto the ramp to Benfield Boulevard. He ran off the road, down a ditch and then rolled up on top of a hill.

Police said speed and alcohol contributed to the accident.
