Trash Fees Discussed

SYKESVILLE — The Sykesville Town Council will discuss ways to increase its commercial sanitation fees and Dumpster charges to cover its sanitation budget at tomorrow's meeting, 7:30 p.m. at the Town House.

The town charges only $10 per yard for Dumpsters, most of which are rented by businesses. The town has to pay the county a tipping fee of $15 per ton to take the trash to local landfills.

A study by Town Manager James L. Schumacher found that Sykesvilleis paying roughly $13,140 in county tipping fees annually, but is collecting only $10,000 in Dumpster rental fees.

Several recommendations were presented at the Jan. 14 council meeting for increasing thetown's fees.

Also to be discussed is the satellite television antenna ordinance, which limits dish sites to the side or rear yard of aresidence. A clause allowing for an appeal if a resident needs to put a satellite dish higher than normal ground level is to be added andvoted on at the meeting.

Other items on the agenda are an update of the Spout Hill Road water and sewer infrastructure; grant and loanproject applications, financial statement and summary; a hunting proposal by the Department of Natural Resources; and a discussion of thebudget process for fiscal year 1992.
