Former Washington Redskins quarterback Doug Williams has been named athletic director and head football coach at Point Coupee Central High School in New Roads, La.

Williams, 35, will be paid $32,000 annually for his work at the new school, which opens this fall. The Point Coupee Parish School Board voted, 7-1, Thursday night to hire Williams. He begins work on Feb. 1.


Navy's men's team raised its record to 4-0 with a 259.65-250.50 victory over Southern Connecticut at New Haven, Conn. Senior Steven Parker won the still rings (9.20) and tied for first on the parallel bars (9.2). Navy's women's team lost to Southern Connecticut, 175.5-163.80.

Bits and pieces

The Baltimore Orioles will hold a clinic this morning from 9:15 to 11:30 at Towson Center on the campus of Towson State University. Instruction will be provided by coaches Elrod Hendricks and Cal Ripken Sr. and players Randy Milligan and Chris Hoiles.
