William K. Smith, who owned record and hobby shops in the Baltimore area, died Jan. 11 at a hospital in Mountainview, Calif., after a short illness.
Mr. Smith, who was 82, moved to Santa Clara, Calif., in the mid-1960s after retiring as owner of the Royal Hobby Shop in Woodlawn.
The Baltimore native started the hobby shop in the late 1940 after owning a record store next to the Royal Theater on Pennsylvania Avenue since the 1930s.
He is survived by a daughter, Betty Daughton of Los Altos, Calif.; three brothers, John Smith of Baltimore, Carl Smith of Herald Harbor and Emmett Smith of Parkville; and three grandchildren.
Services were private.
