January 25, 1991

Wilde Lake High School's All-Metro football standouts, Raphael Wall and Ricky Rowe, announced yesterday they will sign with the University of Maryland and Penn State University, respectively.

The signing period for Division I recruits officially begins Feb. 6.

Wall, 6 feet, 200 pounds, led the Wildecat offense in rushing (1,538) and scoring (25 touchdowns), while Rowe, 6-0, 180, anchored the defense that allowed only 31 points in 10 regular-season games. He had five interceptions. Wilde Lake won the state Class 2A championship, defeating Damascus in overtime, 13-7.

Wall, who visited College Park last weekend, said he selected Maryland because he was promised he would not be red-shirted.

Randallstown's Larry Washington, The Evening Sun Player of the Year, is expected to announce his college intentions Wednesday. He plans to visit Maryland this weekend. He also has visited Tennessee, Michigan, Clemson and Georgia Tech.
