Assault weapons

It's your call

January 25, 1991

Gov. William Donald Schaefer has proposed legislation that would ban the sale of new assault rifles and require people who currently own assault weapons to register them. Schaefer also has proposed legislation that would impose fines and/or jail sentences on adults who leave their guns accessible to children who use them to hurt themselves or others.

Do you support a ban on the sale of assault weapons? Do you support registration of such weapons? Do you think adults should be penalized if their guns are used by children?

We'd like you to share your opinion with The Evening Sun by calling the Baltimore Sun's telephone information service, SUNDIAL.

The call is local and must be made from a Touch-Tone phone. The SUNDIAL number is 783-1800 or, in Anne Arundel County, 268-7736. When you reach SUNDIAL, enter category 4600 and wait for instructions from the announcer. Call with your opinion between 10 a.m. and midnight. The results will be published in this section Monday.

"It's Your Call" represents a sampling of opinions from certain segments of the community, but it is not balanced demographically, as a scientific public opinion poll would be.
