'Earlybird' Sign-ups Set For Lacrosse, Soccer

The Greater Odenton Recreation Council (GORC) will have registrationfor lacrosse and soccer teams at the Odenton Library. "Early Bird" registration will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Feb. 1, and 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 2.

The cost will be $22 per child or $44 maximum per family. Regular registration will be from 10 a.m. to noon, Feb. 16. The cost at this time will be $35 per child or $70 maximum per family.

Mail-in registration is encouraged. The completed forms can be sent to G.O.R.C., P.O. Box 292, Odenton, Md. 21113.

The Odenton Florist, 1319 Annapolis Road, is offering free yellow ribbons for car antennas or door handles to show support for our troops in Operation Desert Storm.

The shop is also selling at-cost big yellow bows for $1, with the proceeds going to the troops. Approximately $200 has already been collected.

Congratulations to the following Meade High School students whose works of art are part of the Area III Riva Road Art Show at the Board of Education Building, now until Jan. 30.

The O'Malley Senior Center is the site of a slide presentation entitled, "Saving The Severn," from 11:30 a.m. to noon, Feb. 6. It is being presented by Jonathan Pearson, of the Maryland Save Our Streams organization.

The goal of this project is to educate the 100,000 residents in the Severn River watershed of the problems facing the Severn and to have them participate in the solutions.

The West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Business Connection from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Feb. 13, at Hayward Baker Inc., 1130 Annapolis Road, Suite 202, Odenton.

Members will have the opportunity to display their business brochures during the evening; the chamber must be notified beforehand.

A new-member briefing is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

The Fort Meade Retired Officers' Wives' Club is accepting reservations for a Saturday, Feb. 2, matinee at the National Theatre of Neil Simon's play,"Lost in Yonkers," starring Irene Worth, Mercedes Rehl and Kevin Spacey.

The show is directed by Tony Award-winner Gene Saks. The costof $43 includes orchestra seating and transportation, which leaves at 11 a.m. from Fort Meade Officers' Club.

The St. Joseph's Players Guild will have auditions for its spring production of Philip King's "See How They Run," directed by Bob Marchand.

Auditions for three female and six male cast members will be held at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow and Tuesday in the the old church located behind St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1283 Odenton Road.

The play will be presented the last two weekends in April. The St. Joseph's Players Guild is opened to everyone in the community.

Storytime at Odenton Library and the Provinces Branch will begin in spring. Stories, games and activities will introduce children to the wonders of reading.

Odenton branch: Children ages 2 to 5 can visit Storytime at 9:30 a.m. Wednesdays, March 6 through April 10. Two-year-olds must be accompanied by a parent or care-giver.

Three-year-olds will meet at 10:15 a.m., and children ages 4 and 5 meet at 11 a.m. Parents are asked to remain in the building during the program. Registration begins Feb. 25. Information: 222-6277.

Provinces branch: Children ages 2 to 5 with a parent or care-giver can meet for Storytime at 9:30 a.m. Wednesdays, March 6 to April 10. Children ages 4 and 5 will meet at 10:30 a.m. Registration begins Feb. 25.

Storytime for day-care groups, ages 2 to 6, will be at9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Provinces branch. Day-care providers can register Feb. 4. Information: 222-6280.


Family Storytime will be offered at the Provinces Branch for children ages 2 to 6 and their parents at 7 p.m. March 21. Stop by for stories, music and family fun. No registration is required.

Also, master storyteller Len Cabral will visit the Provinces Branch at 2 p.m., Feb. 2, and share his tales of Africa and the West Indies, as well as traditional folk tales from the United States.

This lively program includes mime,poetry, humor and lots of audience participation. Fun is offered forthe whole family, ages 6 and up. No registration is required.
