Harry W. Beggs, a retired agricultural extension agent for Dorchester County, died Sunday at the Dorchester General Hospital after an illness of a month. He was 88 and lived in Cambridge.
Services for Mr. Beggs were being held today at the Thomas funeral establishment in Cambridge.
He had worked for the Cooperative Extension Service since 1935, when he became an assistant county agent for Garrett, Allegany and Washington counties. He was a Dorchester County agent from 1943 until his retirement in 1964. He also was an associate professor of agriculture at the University of Maryland.
A native of the Westminster area, he was educated there and graduated from the University of Maryland in 1928.
He is survived by his wife, the former Isabelle Harrison; three daughters, Margaret B. Turner of Timonium, Shirley H. Urgo of Palm Beach, Fla., and Faye H. Bent of Annapolis; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
