Have A Heart, Folks

Neuter Your Pets

January 20, 1991

What do humane societies mean when they say there is a pet overpopulation problem? The tragic answer: Only one of every 10 puppies and kittens born in the United States finds a home. There are not enough homes for all the animals.

Too many people think that allowing theirpet to have "just one litter" won't hurt, but they're wrong. Every home they find for their puppies or kittens means one less home for another animal. They bring their "leftovers" to the SPCA. Spaying and neutering pets will help reduce the tragedy.

To encourage more pet owners to neuter their pets, the SPCA of Anne Arundel County is offering coupons good for a 20-percent discount on spaying and neutering done during February. The promotion is called "Have a Heart -- Prevent a Litter." The coupons will be honored by over 20 veterinary hospitals in Anne Arundel County and on the Eastern Shore.

Participating veterinarians are offering the discount at their own expense to support the SPCA's efforts.

"Prevent a Litter" discount coupons may be picked up at the SPCA shelter office, Animal Control in Glen Burnie, Arundel Pet Supply in Edgewater and Upper Marlboro, Bayshore Pet Shop in Severna Park, P. T. Moran Company in Annapolis, and other locations throughout the county.

The appointment for neutering should be made at least two weeks in advance to guarantee your pet a place.
