Baseball Cleveland Indians -- Agreed to terms with P Dave Otto, minor-league free agent, on Class AAA contract.

Minnesota Twins -- Agreed to terms with P Larry Casian on one-year contract.

New York Mets -- Invited non-roster C Alan Zinter to spring camp. Gave SS Kevin Elster (shoulder) clearance to begin light throwing program.

New York Yankees -- Signed P Dave Eiland (2-1, 3.56 ERA) to one-year contract for $110,000.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Agreed to terms with P Bob Kipper (5-2, 3.02 in 41 games) on one-year $825,000 contract.

San Diego Padres -- Agreed to terms with OF Darrin Jackson (.257, 3 HRs, 9 RBI in 113 at-bats) on one-year contract for $260,000.

Texas Rangers -- Signed four-year working agreement with Class AA Tulsa.

Basketball NBA -- Named former New York Knicks coach Stu Jackson to the new post of director of basketball operations. Jackson will be responsible for the NBA's 1992 Olympic Games participation.

Colleges Boston College -- Named Randy Edsall, a full-time football assistant coach at Syracuse the past eight seasons, to undetermined position on staff.

UMBC -- Announced that freshman C Mark Bogosh (1.7 ppg, 1.7 rpg in 10 games), a Hereford alum and the tallest player in Retrievers history (7-0), has left basketball team for personal reasons.

Michigan -- TB Jon Vaughn, who reached 1,000 yards faster than any back in school history, applied for NFL draft. Vaughn is a a sophomore athletically but a junior academically.

Notre Dame -- Announced that LaPhonso Ellis, (16.4 ppg, 10.5 rpg) is academically ineligible for rest of season.

Texas A&M -- Junior FB Robert Wilson (724 yards rushing) said he will apply for NFL draft.

Texas Tech -- Junior CB Sammy Walker (first-team All-SWC in 1989) said he will apply for NFL draft.

Football New York Giants -- Placed RB Rodney Hampton (broken fibula) on injured reserve.

Hockey Detroit Red Wings -- Called up RW Marc Potvin from Adirondack (AHL).

Toronto Maple Leafs -- Traded D Al Iafrate (3 goals, 15 assists) to Washington for C Peter Zezel (7, 5) and D Bob Rouse (5, 15).
