A designer shift to sew

CLOTHESLINE

January 16, 1991|By Marylou Luther

Dear Marylou: I'm about to take your advice and make myself a shift dress the style you say is the shape of dresses to come. As one who sews, I know that I usually have to wait several months for a style that's big in ready-to-wear to be available as a pattern, but as you may know, the shift dress has never left the pattern world of Jiffy and Easy. Surely there is a difference between the new shifts and those now (and forever) in the pattern catalogs. Please elucidate. M.A.F., Marshall, Mich.
