The following area servicemen recently completed basic military training:

* Airman Joseph K. Hong, son of Peter J. Hong and Yong Cha Hong of Glen Burnie, completed training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. The airman is a 1988 graduate of Old Mill Senior High School.

* Airman Fernando Baden, son of James A. and Helen G. Baden of Severn, completed training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He was a basic training honor graduate.

* Army Reserve Pvt. Robert G. Jones, son of Barbara Wheeler of Glen Burnie, completed training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

* Airman Clifton M. Owns Jr., son of Cynthia L. Wilson of Annapolis, completed training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He is a 1988 graduate of Annapolis Senior High School.

* Airman Brian B. Ravanbakhsh, son of Behrooz and Carol Ravanbakhsh of Annapolis, completed training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. The airman is a 1989 graduate of Broadneck Senior High School.

* Pvt. Kevin Howard, son of Vivian T. Mack-Boston of Severna Park, completed training at Fort Jackson, S.C. The private is a 1981 graduate of Du Val High School, Greenbelt.

* Pvt. Frank Nolan, son of Frank and Dorothy E. Nolan of Severna Park, completed training at Fort Jackson, S.C.He is a 1990 graduate of Northeast High School, Pasadena.

* Pvt. Reginald W. Anderson, son of Ann C. Anderson of Pasadena, completed training at Fort Jackson, S.C. The soldier is a 1990 graduate of Chesapeake High School, Pasadena.

* Army National Guard Pvt. Joel F. Francis, son of Nettie K. Francis of Crownsville and Beryl L. Francis of Columbia, completed training at Fort Bragg, N.C.

* Navy Seaman Recruit Bradley J. Parsons, son of Nicola A. and Louis C. Parsons Jr. of Baltimore, completed training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Fla. He is a 1989 graduate of Brooklyn Park Senior High School.

* Pvt. Troy L. Keith, son of Howard D. Keith of Hanover and Sheila A.Wunder of Upper Marlboro, completed training at Fort Bragg, N.C. Thesoldier is a 1990 graduate of Oakland Mills High School, Columbia.

* Navy Seaman Recruit Kimberly A. Nourse, daughter of Gregory V. and Anne O. Nourse of Crofton, completed training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Fla. He is a 1990 graduate of Arundel Senior High School.

NAVY'S COUCOULES ON USS SARATOGA

Navy Lt. Claude J. Coucoules, whose wife, Diane, is the daughter of Gene P. and Mary A. Roberts of Severna Park, is deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Desert Shield while serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga, homeported in Mayport, Fla.

He is a 1979 graduate of Lakes High School, Tacoma, Washington, and a 1984 graduate of the U.S. NavalAcademy.

ROLAND PROMOTED BY THE AIR FORCE

Randy E. Roland has been promoted in the Air Force to the rank of chief master sergeant.

Roland is a deputy chief of staff for operations at Ramstein Air Base, Germany.

He is the son ot Thomas H. and Constance L. Roland ofTallahassee, Fla.

His wife, Kathleen, is the daughter of James W.and Lois Derouin of Severna Park.

The chief is a 1971 graduate ofBainbridge High School, Ga.

FRUSHON IS NAMED JR. OFFICER OF QUARTER

Capt. Carl J. Frushon has been named junior officer of the quarter. The selection was based on the individual's exemplary duty performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, significant self-improvement and other accomplishments.

The captain is a space systems integration engineer at Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass.

Frushon is the son of Rita E. Frushon of Baltimore.

His wife, Debra, is the daughter of Edward F. Burrucker of Annapolis.

In 1980, Frushon graduatedfrom Hereford Junior Senior High School. He received a master's degree 1986 from the University of Texas, Austin.

SO NOW CAPTAIN IN THE AIR FORCE

John P. So has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of captain.

The captain is a missile combat crew commanderat Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo.

So is the son of Esther C. So of Glen Burnie and brother of Steven H. So of Centerville, Va.

His wife, Nina, is the daughter of Tong Son and Ok Cha Kim of Whiteman Air Force Base.

A 1982 graduate of Woodlawn Senior High School, Baltimore, he is a 1986 graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park, Silver Spring.

SGT. HINTON WINS AIR FORCE MEDAL

Staff Sgt. Steven F. Hinton has been decorated with the Air Force Commendation Medal.

The medal is awarded to those individuals who demonstrate outstanding achievement or meritorious service in the performance of their duties on behalf of the Air Force.

Hinton is space systems operations specialist at Cavalier Air Station, N.D.

He is the son of Ray F. Hinton of Severna Park and Virginia L. Nelson of St. Augustine, Florida.

His wife, Angela, is the daughter of Lydia P. Aquino ofJoppatowne.

CPL. VELO, A MARINE, WINS COMMENDATION

Marine LanceCpl. Fausto A. Vela, son of Fausto H. and Marica E. Vela of Laurel, was recently commended while serving with 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Vela was recognized for his outstanding performance of duty, professionalism and overall dedication to the service.
