Cincinnati Reds -- Agreed to two-year contract with IF Luis Quinones (.241, 2, 17). Agreed to one-year contracts with C Jeff Reed (.251, 3 HRs, 16 RBI), P Milt Hill, C Glenn Sutko, IF Freddie Benevides, IF Brian Lane and OF Chris Jones.

Detroit Tigers -- Named Marty Castillo coach with Class AAA Toledo.

Montreal Expos -- Announced that free-agent P Dave Schmidt (3-3, 4.31 ERA, 13 saves) had decided not to sign with club and would not be eligible to do so until May 1.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Signed IF Curtis Wilkerson (.220, 0 HRs, 16 RBI for Chicago Cubs) to one-year contract.

St. Louis Cardinals -- Announced that free-agent IF-OF Denny Walling (.220 in 127 at-bats) had decided not to sign with club and would not be eligible to do so until May 1.

San Diego Padres -- Agreed to one-year contract for $805,000 with P Dennis Rasmussen (11-15, 4.51 ERA).

Pro basketball Seattle SuperSonics -- Placed G Quintin Dailey (7.5 ppg, Cardinal Gibbons) on injured reserve with injured right hamstring. Activated F Scott Meents.

College Jacksonville -- Named Ed Hanozaryk men's golf coach and Floyd "Smitty" Smith women's golf coach.

Ohio State -- Named Elliot Uzelac, former head coach at Western Michigan and Navy (1987-89), offensive coordinator and assistant head coach to succeed Jim Colletto, who was named head coach at Purdue in December.

Syracuse -- Named Paul Pasqualoni, linebacker coach for past four years, head football coach.

Pro football Atlanta Falcons -- Announced that ILB and defensive captain John Rade (145 tackles) will undergo knee surgery today to repair ligaments.

Dallas Cowboys -- The club, which ranked last in NFL in offense, reassigned offensive coordinator Dave Shula to passing-game coordinator/receivers coach. Released tight-ends coach Alan Lowry and defensive backs coach Dick Nolan, holdovers from Tom Landry regime.

Los Angeles Rams -- Fired defensive coordinator Fritz Shurmur, special-teams coach Jairo Penaranda and defensive assistants Fred Whittingham, Steve Shafer, Larry Brooks, Artie Gigantino.

Philadelphia Eagles -- Fired special-teams coach Al Roberts and Ronnie Jones, coach for strength and conditioning and linebackers.

Hockey Baltimore Skipjacks (AHL) -- Returned G Olaf Kolzig (9-9-1, 3.08 goals-against average, .893 save percentage) to Hampton Roads (ECHL).

Roanoke Valley Rebels (ECHL) -- Suspended LW Graig Shepherd for leaving team. Sent F-D Don Dietrich to Moncton (AHL). Acquired C Greg Simeone on waivers from Nashville.
