Baltimore Mayor Kurt L. Schmoke lobbied legislators for $5 million in additional state aid to hire and train 104 new city police officers.

William Bolander, executive director of Council 92 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, announced that his union may seek legislation that would override an order signed Tuesday by Gov. William Donald Schaefer requiring all full-time state employees to work 40 hours each week. Currently, about two-thirds of state employees work 35 1/2 hours a week.
