LOS ANGELES -- Anthony Geary, who played Luke Spencer on "General Hospital" in the early 1980s, will return to the soap opera in a new role on Valentine's Day.
Mr. Geary will play a "blue collar character," said Gloria Monty, executive producer of the series, at a press conference here yesterday. Monty said Geary's return is part of a revamping of "General Hospital" aimed at "bringing the show into the '90s."
"We are going from the plush society we were all living in during the '80s to the new world of today . . . with working people, the struggles of today and hope."
Talking about the Luke Spencer role, Mr. Geary said, "He became a kind of icon. He represented much of what was wrong with the '80s. He was violent, greedy, chauvinistic and arrogant. He was also romantic."
