Robinson attends meetings here

January 09, 1991

Baltimore Orioles manager Frank Robinson, in town for the Tops in Sports banquet, discussed "general things" with general Roland Hemond and assistant general manager Doug Melvin yesterday and will meet with president Larry Lucchino today.

The manager said he "wouldn't talk about somebody else' players" but added he still desires "a big bat in the middle of the lineup. It's very important to add some proven offense."

Hemond had a brief conversation with Houston Astros general manager Bill Wood, presumably about first baseman Glenn Davis, when he returned from vacation, but said he is concentrating on contract negotiations with current Orioles at the moment.

Another name that has been mentioned in connection with th Orioles is free-agent outfielder Candy Maldonado, who had 22 home runs and 95 RBI for the Cleveland Indians last season.
