Canseco's brother sold by A's to Japan

January 08, 1991

Ozzie Canseco, the twin brother of Oakland Athletics star Jose Canseco, has signed a one-year contract with the Kintetsu Buffaloes of the Japanese Pacific League.

Kintetsu spokesman Minoru Ichihara said the contract calls for the Japanese club to pay a fee to the Athletics for releasing the 26-year-old outfielder.

Canseco becomes the third foreign player under contract to the Buffaloes, who finished third in the six-team league last season. The other two are Ralph Bryant, who played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Jim Traber, formerly with the Baltimore Orioles. A team is allowed to carry two foreign players on its roster. A foreign player in a team's minor league system does not count against the two-player limit.
