NEW ORLEANS -- Tank Collins scored a career-high 28 points to lead New Orleans to an 84-77 victory against Coppin State last night at Lakefront Arena.

It was the 11th consecutive win for the Privateers (11-2) and the second loss in a row for the Eagles (4-8).

Ervin Johnson scored 21 and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for New Orleans, and teammate Dwight Myvett scored a season-high 17.

The Privateers made all 10 of their free throws in the final 2 1/2 minutes. Myvett made eight during that stretch and finished 10-for-10.

"We've struggled all season with free throws," said New Orleans coach Tim Floyd, "but we didn't tonight. We had the ball in Myvett's hands down the stretch, and he was the right guy at the line."

Reggie Isaac scored 27, including 19 in the second half, for Coppin State. Larry McCollum scored 14 and Larry Stewart 13.

McCollum scored six in the first seven minutes to give the Eagles a 14-7 lead. But the Privateers, playing one day after a 66-64 victory at Southwestern Louisiana, took the lead for good at 19-18 when Myvett made a 10-footer with 7 minutes, 3 seconds remaining in the half.

"Coppin State is a good team," said Floyd. "That's evident when you learn they've won at Maryland, Creighton and Toledo. We never could put them away effectively."

The Privateers led, 34-29, at halftime and twice built the lead to 10 points in the second half. They shot 67 percent from the field and made 18 of 23 free throws in the final 20 minutes.

The Privateers, who have out-rebounded every opponent this season, had a 30-26 advantage.

"We aren't going to win many games when they shoot 59 percent from the floor," Coppin coach Fang Mitchell said. "We knew we had to rebound defensively and play good defense, and at times we didn't do either."

New Orleans will resume its American South Conference schedule at home against Arkansas State Thursday night. Coppin State will play host to North Carolina A&T in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game Wednesday.
