J. Joseph Goheen Bank insurance official

Services for J. Joseph Goheen, an official with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and a former resident of Baltimore, will be held at noon tomorrow at the Western Presbyterian Church, 19906 H St. N.W., Washington.

Mr. Goheen, assistant chief of the FDIC's corporate training branch since 1978, died of cancer Friday at the Hospice of Washington at the age of 49. He had lived the past 12 years in Falls Church, Va.

Born in Quinwood, W.Va., Mr. Goheen was reared in Baltimore. He was a 1960 graduate of City College and received his undergraduate degree four years later from what is now Towson State University.

He held various positions with the U.S. Civil Service Commission in Baltimore, Washington and Norfolk, Va., from 1966 to 1972. From 1972 to 1978, he was regional personnel officer for the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Chicago.

Surviving are his wife, the former Patricia P. Frye of Falls Church, Va.; a daughter, Leslie Peterson of Zionsville, Ind.; a son, Michael A. Goheen of Falls Church; four stepchildren, Barton Quigley of Falls Church and Katherine Edwards and Bryan and Linda Quigley, all of Virginia Beach, Va.; his mother, Maysel Goheen of Baltimore; a sister, Margaret Root of Windsor, Conn.; and a brother, Richard Goheen of Frederick.
