Ethel Marie Hansel Operated marina

January 05, 1991

Services for Ethel Marie Hansel, who once operated a marina in Deale, will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Barranco and Sons Funeral Home, Ritchie Highway and Robinson Road, Severna Park.

Mrs. Hansel, who was 79, died of heart failure Wednesday at her home at the Queen Anne's Marina, where she lived with a son.

At the Kent Island marina, her home since 1983, she became known as "Gran" to the commercial waterman whom she would greet upon their return to the dock.

Earlier, she and her husband, William R. Hansel Sr., operated a grocery store and then a marina in Deale. For a short time after Mr. Hansel's death in 1974, she continued to operate the marina.

Born Ethel Marie Wood in Baltimore, she attended Eastern High School.

She was a life member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Baltimore.

She is survived by two sons, William R. Hansel Jr. of Glen Burnie and Lawrence G. Hansel of Stevensville; a daughter, Trudy Hoxter of Chester; a brother Maurice C. Wood of Glen Burnie; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
