Architecture and design:

Susan Lee Boyle is named a principal and director of interior design/space planning services for the Columbia Design Collective, an architecture, planning, landscape architecture and interior architecture firm. She will direct all interior planning, programming and interior architecture activities. She was previously with Haines Lundberg Waehler, an architectural firm in New York.

Thomas K. Bauley is named an associate of the firm. He will be responsible for retail planning, graphics and design as part of the firm's expanded services. He was previously with the Enterprise Development Co.


W. Keith Mathis is named district manager and Donald D. Denault Jr. is appointed assistant manager for the Baltimore district of The Baltimore Life Insurance Co.

Financial services:

Bruce P. Betz joins Legg Mason Wood Walker Inc., a unit of Legg Mason, as an investment executive in the Baltimore office. He previously spent eight years as an investment broker with Ferris Baker Watts.

To your health:

Linda R. Bergofsky is named director of planning at St. Agnes Hospital. She will be responsible for strategic planning, facility planning, service line evaluations and market analysis. She was previously manager of planning and data analysis at the Franciscan Health System in Aston, Pa.

William R. Snyder is named senior vice president-administration of Crown Central Petroleum Corp. He was previously vice president-administration and secretary of the corporation.

Steven A. Gershman is named managing director for the Washington practice of Katz, Abosch, Windesheim, Gershman & Freedman. He will direct all activities for the firm's Washington operations. A partner with the firm for the past 15 years, Gershman is a member of its Litigation Consulting and Support Division.

E. Hayes Merkert Jr. of Smithy Braedon Co. achieves the SIOR industrial/office designation of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors, an international association of professional commercial real estate brokers. He is vice president of leasing in the firm's Baltimore office, concentrating on the suburban south office and industrial markets.

Kimberly Powell is named public relations account executive with Richardson, Myers & Donofrio. She will be responsible for public relations and product publicity for Gramoxone, a product for the firm's client ICI Agricultural Products, Wilmington, Del. She most recently worked as public relations consultant and writer within the agriculture, health care and personnel industries in Kansas City, Mo. Before that, she worked for Trent-Jones in Princeton, N.J.


Michael Azzolini and George Bernstein are named vice presidents of Hess Shoes.

Bernstein, vice president of Real Estate and Marketing, joined Hess in 1989. Before that, he was a senior consultant specializing in strategic planning and marketing for Bain and Co., a Boston-based consulting firm.

Azzolini, vice president of the Women's Division, joined the company in 1975. He most recently worked as buyer and merchandise manager for Hess

At the plant:

Michael M. Prime is named lead systems analyst in the Management Information Systems Department of the McCormick Flavor Group of McCormick & Co. Inc. He will participate in the department's PRISM System development effort, especially in inventory, production and planning. He joined the company in 1986 as data processing manager for the Golden West Foods subsidiary in Bedford, Va.

At Baltimore Specialty Steels Corp., Brian A. Renn is appointed manager process information systems. He will be responsible for the management and information integration of all process computing systems.

John J. Myers is appointed supervisor information systems technical services. He will be responsible for the management of system hardware and software.

William J. Bosley is appointed manager manufacturing information systems. He will be responsible for implementation of manufacturing information systems.
