A report in the New York Daily News says Bill Walsh will not return to NBC's NFL broadcast booth next season.
Whether Walsh, whose two-year deal with NBC Sports expires at the end of this season, is offered a new coaching gig or a new deal, it won't matter.
"He is more concerned about his freedom to do other things," The News quoted a mole. "He was upset when NBC told him he couldn't act as a teacher to quarterbacks who were looking for his help."
NBC Sports executive producer Terry O'Neil put the kabosh on Walsh working with the young quarterbacks, saying that it would be a conflict of interest for a broadcaster to, in effect, serve as a coach.
