Maryland falls to Arkansas, 79-68 State women

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Blair Savage scored 21 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and led a decisive, 11-4 run in the second half to help Arkansas over Maryland, 79-68, in the consolation game of the Bell Atlantic Holiday Tournament yesterday.

Rutgers defeated Georgia, 58-57, for the championship.

Maryland (5-5) was ahead, 22-7, with 14 minutes, 37 seconds remaining, but Arkansas (9-2) battled back to pull even, 38-38, by halftime.

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Julie Magrane's 17 points led Morehead State (6-3) over Towson State (3-6) in the consolation game of the Diamond Club Classic at Virginia Tech.

Towson was led Joann Allen and Daniel Barry, who scored 18 each.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Emily Johnson scored 18 and Kim Oden 14 to lead North Carolina (8-1) over Loyola College (3-5).

Junior Jennifer Young's career-high 20 points led Loyola.
