C.E. "Ted" Peck is elected chairman of the University of Maryland Foundation board of directors. He is the former chairman and chief executive officer of The Ryland Group Inc., a national home-building and mortgage financial services company headquartered in Columbia.
The University of Maryland Foundation is a non-profit, fund-raising and assest-management arm of the University of Maryland system. Peck has served on the foundation board of directors since 1988.
Tory Brueck, manager of strategic planning and analysis for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Maryland, is named to the board of Goodwill Industries.
Nancy G. Mucha, senior representative of customer service for BC&BC is named to the board of the Wellness Community of Annapolis-Baltimore, which offers medical, counseling and social resources and support for people living with cancer.
William E. Carlson, a partner with the law firm of Shapiro and Olander, is named to the board of directors at BEDCO Development Corp., a private, non-profit corporation that operates under the auspices of the Baltimore Economic Development Corp. BEDCO Development issues loans and David Whitehurst is appointed production manager, eastern and southern area concrete operations for the Genstar Stone Products Co. He will be responsible for the production and delivery of ready-mix concrete from nine plants in the Baltimore/Washington area. He has been with the company for 12 years, most recently as supervisor central control in the concrete operations.
At A.C.& R. Insulation Co. Inc., Dick Conner is named sales representative for Howard, Anne Arundel, Frederick and Carroll counties. He will also be responsible for accounts in Montgomery and Prince Georges counties. Donna Kovalyak is promoted to senior accountant with Stegman & Co.'s Columbia office. She will be responsible for preparing compilations, reviews, tax returns and audits. Michael Azzolini and George Bernstein are named vice presidents of Hess Shoes.
Bernstein, vice president of Real Estate and Marketing, joined Hess in 1989. Before that, he was a senior consultant specializing in strategic planning and marketing for Bain and Co., a Boston-based consulting firm.
Azzolini, vice president of the Women's Division, joined the company in 1975. He most recently worked as buyer and merchandise manager for Hess.
