Navy Airman Doyle Learns To Fix Planes

Apprentice William K. Doyle, the son of Karen S. Doyle of Annapolis and whose wife, Holly, is the daughter of Jacob and Debra J. Sauter of Annapolis, has completed the Aviation Electrician's Mate Course.

During the course, conducted at the Naval Air Technical Training Center, Naval Air Station Memphis, Millington, Tenn., Doyle received introductory instruction required to perform scheduled maintenance on navel aircraft, including electrical and electronic instrument systems. Doyle also received instruction to prepare him for further specialized training on electrical and electronic instrument systems.

NAVY'S FARROW FINISHES TRAINING

Navy Fireman Apprentice Rodger S. Farrow, son of Marie K. Siar of Baltimore and Hugh B. Siar of Odenton, was graduated from Basic Hull Maintenance Technician School.

During the 11-week course at Naval Damage Control Training Center, Philadelphia, Farrow received instruction on the basics of welding, pipefitting and metalsmithing. He also studied the procedures used to fabricate, install and repair all types of shipboard structures, plumbing and piping systems.

ENGLISH IS TAUGHT TO BE INSTRUCTOR

Navy Petty Officer First Class Ocie B. English, whose wife, Sarah, is the daughter of Leroy S. and Nellie E. Green of Glen Burnie, was graduated from Basic Instructor School.

During the four-week course at Naval Technical Training Center Corry Station, Pensacola, Fla., English gained a fundamental knowledge of instructor, supervisor and counselor duties at other Navy schools. He also received instruction on lesson plan preparation, classroom presentation techniques, oral delivery, the use of training aids and personnel guidance and counseling skills.

SPIEGEL GRADUATES FROM FT. LEE COURSE

Specialist Barbara L. Spiegel has graduated from the unit supply specialist course at Fort Lee, Petersburg, Va.

Students were trained in receipt, storage, issue and accountability of individual, organization, and installation supplies and equipment. Also included in the training was maintenance of small arms.

Spiegel is the daughter of Anita R. Spiegel of Annapolis. She is a 1982 graduate of Severna Park Senior High School.

3 ENSIGNS TAKE OFFICER'S COURSE

Three area servicemen recently completed the Basic Surface Warfare Officer's Course: * Navy Ensign Hug J. Huck, a 1986 graduate of Madison High School of Madison, Ohio. He is a 1990 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy.

* Navy Ensign Garrett C. Brooks, a 1986 graduate of Severn School of Severna Park. He is a 1990 graduate of Duke University, Durham, N.C.

* Navy Ensign Peter J. Smith, whose wife, Lisa, is the daughter of W.

Ike and Kathy Eichler of Edgewater. He is a 1982 graduate of Newfield High School, Centereach, N.Y., and a 1990 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy.

During the 18-week course conducted at Surface Warfare Officers School, Pacific, San Diego,the seamen were taught how to perform as watch and division officers aboard Navy ships.

They received extensive instructions on the duties of an underway officer of the deck, which included shiphandling and maneuvering in formation under simulated battle conditions. They also studied radar detection, tracking and plotting of enemy aircraft, ships and missiles; communications; damage control; and shipboard organization.

2 MARINES FINISH SCHOOL OF INFANTRY

Two area servicemen recently completed the School of Infantry: * Marine Private Jerome M. Zanger, a 1985 graduate of Southern High School of Baltimore.

* Marine Private Thomas W. Hopkins, son of Patricia S. and Thomas W.

Hopkins II of Severna Park. He is a 1987 graduate of Severna Park Senior High School.

During the course, conducted at Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C., they received classroom instruction and participated in field exercises involving infantry tactics, the construction and camouflage of fighting positions, the use of mines and other demolitions, and intracompany communications equipment.

STEWART ATTENDS ELECTRONICS SCHOOL

Navy Seaman Apprentice Tempie M. Stewart, daughter of Harry A. and Edith B. Stewart of Edgewater, was graduated from Basic Electronics Technician School.

During the course, conducted at Service School Command, Naval Training Center, Orlando, Fla., Stewart received introductory instructions on electronic circuit concepts, radar principles, and the basics of radio transmitters and receivers. She also studied the procedures for repairing amplifiers, transmitters, receivers, and power supply lines.

She is a 1989 graduate of South River High School.

TWO FROM AREA END BASIC TRAINING

Two area servicemen recently completed basic military training: * Pvt. Harlen E. Beckman III, son of Harlen E. Beckman Jr. of Severn and Diane E. Polin of Terra Alta, W.Va., completed training at Fort Jackson, S.C. The private is a 1990 graduate of East Preston High School, Terra Alta, W.Va.
