Theater 1990: Cheers & jeers

December 30, 1990|By J. Wynn Rousuck

THUMBS UP "Les Miserables," Morris A. Mechanic Theatre. Spectacular production based on a darned good yarn.

"O Pioneers!", Center Stage. One of the theater's crowning achievements.

"Tru," Morris A. Mechanic Theatre. A tour de force by Robert Morse.

"Richard III," Shakespeare Theatre at the Folger. Eerily effective.

Cooperative agreement between the Theatre Project and Towson State University. Enhances both institutions.

"Annie 2," Kennedy Center. Illogical and ill-conceived.

"Dennis the Menace," Olney Theatre. Flimsier than the funny pages.

"The Pleasure Raiders," Impossible Industrial Action. Experimental theater that failed.

"Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding," Fells Point Cabaret Theatre. If you like drunken brawls and food fights, this was for you.

"Miss Saigon" casting controversy. Both sides nearly shot themselves in the foot.
