No. 12 Loyola advances, 46-45, on late free throw

Paul Howard made a free throw with seven seconds left to lift No. 12 Loyola (5-4) over Cardinal Leger (Canada), 46-45, in a consolation semifinal of the Benedictine Capital City Classic in Richmond, Va. Loyola will play the winner of yesterday's Gonzaga-Benedictine matchup in a 3:45 p.m. consolation today.

Casey Musick's 32 point performance was not enough to lift No. 5 Cardinal Gibbons to victory, as the Crusaders fell to Clifford Scott (N.J.), 74-71, in the quarterfinals of the Kingdom of the Sun Tournament in Ocala, Fla. Quinton Moody added 24 for Gibbons, which will play in a consolation game tonight at 6:30.

Paul Nobel's 16 points led Plymouth of Pennsylvania to a 43-30 victory over Calvert Hall (3-6) in the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials Holiday Tournament at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes, Del. Calvert Hall will play in a consolation game today at 2 p.m.

Lee Harlow and Trey Manuel each scored 27, as host Mount Carmel (6-5) beat Kenwood, 71-60, in the championship game of the Cougar Classic.
