Matthew L. Beccio MATCO president

December 27, 1990

Matthew L. Beccio, former president of the defunct MATCO construction company, died of cancer Dec. 12 at his home in Clearwater, Fla. He was 69.

A native of Baltimore, Mr. Beccio graduated from Forest Park High School and later attended the University of Maryland. He interrupted his education to serve as a navigator in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant.

He returned to Baltimore after the war and resumed his studies while working as a tailor. He later obtained a law degree from the University of Baltimore.

Mr. Beccio then joined his father's masonry and construction business, the Thomas Matthew Beccio Co. He took over the business when his father died in 1952. Mr. Beccio sold the Cockeysville-based company last year and moved to Florida in April.

His survivors include his wife, the former Ursula Bartch; his mother, Mary Beccio; a brother, Vincent Beccio; and two sisters, Lily Wilsey and Violet Mackley, all of Baltimore.
