Kids Get Rid Of Energy On Ice While Adults Cut The Rug

Before the kids slide into the post-Christmas blues, check out some activities they can do.

Children in kindergarten through eighth grade can exercise away some of that holiday energy at the Longwell Municipal Center, where the Westminster Recreation Department has a Holiday Open Gym.

Chose any session from noon to 2 p.m. or 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. Cost is $1 per child per session.

The center is on Longwell Avenue. Information: 848-6962.

Pre-teens can skate through holidays at the Carroll County Middle School Recreation Council's Christmas skating party. Middle-school students, only, roll around Sportsman's Hall from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday. Admission is $4.50 admission and $1.25 to rent skates.

The hall is on Route 30, Upperco. Information: 857-2103.

The kids can celebrate 1991 just a little early as Westminster City Recreation Department sponsors Teen Center Dance for students in city middle schools from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, also at Longwell Municipal Center.

Admission is $2 and includes refreshments, door prizes and New Year party favors. Total Audio Productions provides the sounds. Information: 848-6962.

That's enough for the younger generations. Adults get to party, too.

Plenty of diversions are on tap, with New Year's Eve events heading the list.

Bid 1990 adieu. Then, dance and party in the New Year at several locations including:

* Union Bridge Fire Company and "Son of a Gun" will keep your feet tapping at a New Year's Eve Dance from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Tickets are $30 per couple and include beer, setups and midnight breakfast. Revelers must be 21 years old.

Ring out the old

* Sunday Singles will party and dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Frock's, Bond Street, Westminster. Their New Year's Eve Dance costs $15 per person for advanced tickets or $17, at the door. Cost includes food, open bar and the recorded music of disc jockey, Kaye Kolb. Information: 833-3340.

* You'll find two floors of dining and dancing beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Big Pipe Creek Park, 3939 Taneytown Road, Taneytown. Cost is $25 per person and includes open bar. Call 756-4000 for tickets.

* Not to be outdone, the VFW Post 467 has dinner, dancing and continental breakfast from 7 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Sherwood Country plays the tunes. Tickets are $35 per couple. Information: 848-9888.
