4 Complete Courses In Basic Training

Several servicemen from the area have completed basis training. They include:

* Navy Seaman Recruit James G. Debus, son of Army Master Sgt. John R.

Debus of Aberdeen, at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Fla.

During his eight-week training cycle, he studied general military subjects designed to prepare him for further academic and on-the-job training in one of the Navy's 85 basic fields.

He is a 1990 graduate of Aberdeen High School and joined the Navy in August 1990.

* Coast Guard Fireman Apprentice Patrick C. Driver, son of Jerome M. and Elizabeth A. Driver, of Bel Air, at Coast Guard Training Center, Cape May, N.J.

Among the subjects he studied were first aid, Coast Guard history and seamanship, communications, damage control, firefighting and physical conditioning.

He is a 1985 graduate of Harford Vocational Technical High School.

Driver joined the Coast Guard in September 1990.

* Navy Airman Recruit Ronald L. Britton, son of Kathy M. Gallagher of Bel Air, at Recruit Training Command, San Diego.

His duties include seamanship, close-order drill, naval history and first aid. Personnel who complete this course of instruction are eligible for three hours of college credit in physical education and hygiene.

Britton is a 1990 graduate of Bel Air High School.

* Marine Pfc. Dana M. Wiggins at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

During the 13-week training cycle, Wiggins was taught the basics of battlefield survival. He was introduced to the typical daily routine that he will experience during his enlistment and studied Marine personal and professional standards.

Wiggins is 1990 graduate of Joppatowne High School.


Lt. Steven A. Bonghardt, son of Robert G. and Antionnette L. Bonghardt of Forest Hill, recently departed on deployment while serving with Fighter Squadron-114, Naval Air Station Miramer, San Diego, aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.

The squadron will complete the around-the-horn cruise aboard the nation's newest carrier. Bonghardt will make port visits to the Virgin Islands, Brazil and Chile.

He is a 1981 graduate of John Carroll School, Bel Air, and a 1985 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, with an aerospace engineering degree.

Bonghardt joined the Navy in May 1985.


Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Robert Karpewicz, nephew of Ronald and Carolyn Karpewicz of Fallston, recently reported for duty aboard the frigate USS Kirk, homeported in Yokosuka, Japan. He is a 1988 graduate of Fallston High School. He joined the Navy in August 1988.


Navy Seaman Apprentice James J. Huber has deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Desert Shield while serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy, homeported in Norfolk, Va.

Huber is the son of James M. and Gail Huber of Abingdon. He joined the Navy in May 1989.


Navy Seaman James H. Collier has deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Desert Shield while serving aboard the frigate USS Elmer Montgomery, homeported in Mayport, Fla.

Collier is the son of James H. Collier Sr. of Aberdeen. He joined the Navy in October 1988.


Navy Seaman Christopher I. Williams recently reported for duty aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Ticonderoga, homeported in Norfolk, Va.

Williams is the son of Frank L. and Mary F. Williams of Baltimore. He joined the Navy in September 1988.


Airman Eric J. Bruni has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied Air Force mission, organization and customs and received special training in human relations.

Bruni is the son of Leo A. Bruni of Edgewood and Kathleen K. Bruni of Rocky Gap, Va.

He is a 1990 graduate of Edgewood High School.


Pvt. Sonya Y. Ford has completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

During the training, students received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, first aid and Army history and traditions.

Ford is the daughter of Roland H. Wing of Aberdeen and Lynn A. Wing of Havre de Grace.

The private is a 1990 graduate of Aberdeen High School.
