Car crash kills man, 24

A 24-year-old man was killed yesterday when his car struck a pole on Perring Parkway, according to Baltimore police.

The victim was identified by the police as Michael Tyrone Harper of the 5400 block of Gardenwood Road.

The police said the victim was northbound on Perring Parkway at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his 1990 Mercury Cougar under Northern Parkway and struck a light pole.

The car flipped over after striking the pole and then skidded on its roof for several hundred feet, the police said.

Excessive speed was cited as the cause of the crash, they said.

The fatal crash brings to 699 the number of people killed in highway traffic accidents in the state this year, 32 fewer than by this timelast year, according to the state police.
