Car flips, killing man

December 20, 1990

A 24-year-old Northeast Baltimore man was killed when the rental car he was driving struck a curb and a utility pole, overturned and skidded 300 feet before coming to rest in the 6700 block of Perring Parkway early today.

Police said they were called to the location at about 4:15 a.m., where they discovered the car on its roof 474 feet north of the Northern Parkway overpass. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the crew of a Baltimore City Fire Department medic unit.

The victim's name was being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

Police said that the 1991 Mercury Cougar, a rental car with Virginia tags, was northbound on Perring Parkway when it struck the curb just north of Northern Parkway, flipped over and slid on its roof along the road.

Police blamed excessive speed for the accident.

The body was taken to the medical examiner to determine the exact cause of death.
