Inspired Mount St. Joe deals No. 4 Walbrook first loss of year

On what Walbrook basketball coach Gus Herrington called "one of those days," an inspired Mount St. Joseph team caught his fourth-ranked Warriors flat-footed and prevailed 82-75.

Senior guards Patrick Young and Darrin Jones combined for 45 points as the host Gaels (4-3, 1-1) surprised a squad that many already had conceded the second spot behind top-ranked Dunbar in MSA Division I.

"We were flat," said Herrington, after his Warriors (3-1, 2-1) dropped their first game of the season. "St. Joe's kids came ready to play. They played a helluva game. They wanted it and never quit."

Despite being double-teamed, senior center Stevie Thomas led Walbrook with 16 points, 12 in the second half after 16th-ranked St. Joe had taken a 40-26 lead.
